SUMMARY:[EXTENDED] Winter Salt Snapshot 2026
DESCRIPTION:Photo: Tookany/Tacony-Frankford Watershed Partnership\n\n\n\nDue to weather conditions\, the sampling window has been extended through March 25. Stroud Water Research Center recommends that snapshot participants delay stream sampling until conditions improve. Many small streams across our region are frozen with icy banks. Parking on side roads is also difficult in many areas. If your group has already collected samples\, please proceed with analysis and data entry in the online data sheet. Please note that we will continue to accept data to allow groups to sample based on their own situations and needs. Questions? Contact David Bressler. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOn January 30 (extended)\, organizations throughout the Delaware River watershed and beyond will host stream sampling events. Community scientists and volunteers will collect chloride and conductivity data for a Winter Salt Snapshot during Winter Salt Week. Due to weather conditions\, the sampling window has been extended through March 25. \n\n\n\nThis stream and river monitoring event provides participants with local salt pollution data and information they can use to educate and engage municipal governments\, local leaders\, and the public. Stroud Center scientists will use the snapshot data to produce a high-resolution map of salt concentrations in regional streams. \n\n\n\nThe Stroud Center will provide support\, resources\, and regular email updates to registered snapshot participants. All resources will be made easily accessible as online folders and files. \n\n\n\n\nLearn About Road Salt Pollution\n\n\n\n\nResources\n\n\n\n\nComprehensive guidance document.\n\n\n\n2026 Resources for Winter Salt Snapshot Event Organizers (includes the guidance document\, snapshot data sheet\, and communication materials such as email\, social media\, and media templates).\n\n\n\n\nQuestions? UPDATE: Please check with the event contact to confirm whether the event has been postponed or canceled. \n\n\n\nPlease follow these instructions: \n\n\n\n\nDownload and print the salt snapshot sample data sheet. (This is optional\, but will expedite testing at the event.)\n\n\n\nWhile at your sample site\, record the location as precisely as possible by dropping a pin in a mapping app on your phone.\n\n\n\nCollect about two cups of water in a clean container for each sample.\n\n\n\nFill out the data form with your sample information.\n\n\n\nBring your samples and data form to one of the events listed below.\n\n\n\n\nAttend an Event\n\n\n\nHosted by Stroud Water Research Center\n\n\n\n\nSalt Pollution Water Testing Event in Harrisburg\, Pa.\, Monday\, January 26.
