Contact Kathryn Difo.\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister Now\n\n\n\n\nIntroducing Salty Streams and Safer Streets\n\n\n\nA New Middle School MWEE Curriculum for Grades 6–9 from the Creators of Shared Waters\n\n\n\nBuilt on the same research-based\, phenomenon-driven approach as the nationally recognized Shared Waters curriculum\, Salty Streams and Safer Streets extends watershed education into grades 6–9 through a locally relevant investigation of one of today’s important environmental challenges: balancing winter road safety with the health of our freshwater ecosystems. \n\n\n\nDesigned specifically for Intermediate Unit consultants\, informal environmental education organizations\, and other professional development providers\, this full-day workshop prepares participants to confidently facilitate professional learning and support implementation of this new curriculum throughout their region. \n\n\n\nParticipants will: \n\n\n\n\nExperience key investigations from the free 11-lesson curriculum.\n\n\n\nExplore instructional resources and implementation strategies.\n\n\n\nLearn how the curriculum supports the Pennsylvania STEELS Standards\, Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS)\, and the Meaningful Watershed Educational Experience (MWEE) framework.\n\n\n\nReceive the tools and resources needed to train and support classroom teachers.\n\n\n\n\nStudents investigate the driving question: How can we balance winter road safety with the health of our watershed? \n\n\n\nThrough hands-on investigations\, outdoor learning\, water quality monitoring\, geospatial technologies\, systems thinking\, and Claim-Evidence-Reasoning (CER)\, students gather and synthesize evidence before designing and implementing meaningful watershed action projects. \n\n\n\nWhether your region is already implementing Shared Waters or you are looking to expand watershed education opportunities for middle school educators\, this workshop will prepare you to bring Salty Streams and Safer Streets to teachers across your service area.
