Out-of-town registrants can find affordable accommodations available nearby\, at their expense.\n\n\n\nRegistration is limited to 20 participants and closes on June 5.\n\n\n\n\nReady to Get Your Feet Wet in Real Science?\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin Stroud Water Research Center for a hands-on\, field-based professional learning experience where educators become freshwater scientists — and leave ready to lead powerful\, student-driven watershed investigations. \n\n\n\nThis 5-day educator camp blends stream science\, outdoor learning\, and classroom application\, helping teachers transform local waterways into living laboratories while aligning with the Meaningful Watershed Educational Experiences (MWEE) framework\, PA STEELS Standards\, and three-dimensional\, phenomena-based instruction. \n\n\n\nThroughout the week\, you will monitor different streams by sampling aquatic macroinvertebrates and completing water chemistry tests\, visit outdoor learning spaces at different locations\, canoe on local waterways\, and explore local parks and preserves. At the end of the week\, participants will become Pa. RSVPs are appreciated but not required.\n\n\n\n\n\nRSVP Now\n\n\n\n\nIs Your Local Stream Getting Salty?\n\n\n\nSalt keeps us safe on icy roads — but it’s also quietly harming waterways. Every winter\, millions of tons of salt are spread on roads\, sidewalks\, and driveways to combat snow and ice. While it’s effective at reducing slippery conditions\, the consequences for freshwater ecosystems\, infrastructure\, and drinking water are profound\, especially as winter salt use has risen dramatically over the past 50 years.  \n\n\n\n\nBut road salt isn’t just a winter issue. Volunteers will test it for chloride and conductivity\, and Stroud Water Research Center scientists will add the data to the interactive salt map at stroudcenter.info/saltmap. \n\n\n\nGet Your Streamwater Tested\n\n\n\n\nDownload and print the salt snapshot sample data sheet. (This is optional\, but will speed up testing at the event.)\n\n\n\nWhile at your sample site\, record the location as precisely as possible by dropping a pin in a mapping app on your phone.\n\n\n\nCollect about two cups of water in a clean container for each sample.\n\n\n\nFill out the data form with your sample information. \n\n\n\nBring your samples and data form to the event for analysis.\n\n\n\n\nRSVPs are appreciated but not required. Contact Kathryn Difo.\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister Now\n\n\n\n\nIntroducing Salty Streams and Safer Streets\n\n\n\nA New Middle School MWEE Curriculum for Grades 6–9 from the Creators of Shared Waters\n\n\n\nBuilt on the same research-based\, phenomenon-driven approach as the nationally recognized Shared Waters curriculum\, Salty Streams and Safer Streets extends watershed education into grades 6–9 through a locally relevant investigation of one of today’s important environmental challenges: balancing winter road safety with the health of our freshwater ecosystems. \n\n\n\nDesigned specifically for Intermediate Unit consultants\, informal environmental education organizations\, and other professional development providers\, this full-day workshop prepares participants to confidently facilitate professional learning and support implementation of this new curriculum throughout their region. \n\n\n\nParticipants will: \n\n\n\n\nExperience key investigations from the free 11-lesson curriculum.\n\n\n\nExplore instructional resources and implementation strategies.\n\n\n\nLearn how the curriculum supports the Pennsylvania STEELS Standards\, Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS)\, and the Meaningful Watershed Educational Experience (MWEE) framework.\n\n\n\nReceive the tools and resources needed to train and support classroom teachers.\n\n\n\n\nStudents investigate the driving question: How can we balance winter road safety with the health of our watershed? \n\n\n\nThrough hands-on investigations\, outdoor learning\, water quality monitoring\, geospatial technologies\, systems thinking\, and Claim-Evidence-Reasoning (CER)\, students gather and synthesize evidence before designing and implementing meaningful watershed action projects. \n\n\n\nWhether your region is already implementing Shared Waters or you are looking to expand watershed education opportunities for middle school educators\, this workshop will prepare you to bring Salty Streams and Safer Streets to teachers across your service area.

During this event\, the Stroud Center recognizes an individual or organization that has made invaluable contributions to the world of fresh water or environmental conservation and presents them with the Stroud Award for Freshwater Excellence. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis year’s award honors Amy Bowers Cordalis. Cordalis is a Yurok tribal member\, attorney\, environmental advocate\, fisherwoman\, author\, and cultural practitioner committed to restoring Indigenous rights and sovereignty and advancing environmental justice.
