DESCRIPTION:When: Saturday\, September 14\, 2024\, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.Where: Stroud Water Research Center\, 970 Spencer Road\, Avondale\, PA 19311Audience: Middle and high school teachers\, environmental educators\, and anyone interested in community science.Cost: Free! Registration is required\, see the instructions below. Please bring a lunch. \n\n\n\nHow Can Clumps of Slimy Leaves Spark Stream Exploration?\n\n\n\nThe Leaf Pack Network® is a fun\, hands-on research and outreach tool for people of all ages that demonstrates how our actions on land impact life in streams and water quality. The Leaf Pack Network promotes inquiry-based interdisciplinary watershed education. It teaches diverse audiences to conduct experiments\, gather ecological data\, explore food webs\, learn classification skills\, use technology to share data\, compare data with other communities’ data\, and apply that information to protect local watersheds. \n\n\n\nJoin Us at Our Workshop and We’ll Show You How!\n\n\n\nParticipants will receive an overview of stream ecology and watershed concepts based on research at Stroud Water Research Center. Taking our boots to the stream\, we’ll examine leaf packs with live aquatic macroinvertebrates\, identify them\, and explore the Leaf Pack Network website. \n\n\n\nLeaf Pack Stream Ecology Kit\n\n\n\nAt the workshop\, you will receive: \n\n\n\n\nLeaf Pack Stream Ecology Kit give-aways!\n\n\n\nTour of the Stroud Center’s research labs and LEED-Platinum-certified building\n\n\n\nHands-on experience deploying and retrieving leaf packs from the stream\n\n\n\nTraining in macroinvertebrate ID\n\n\n\nFUN teaching techniques to bring to your classes!\n\n\n\nCertificate of participation (volunteer hours or towards teacher professional development credits)

His writing helps readers escape screens and find balance on the planet. \n\n\n\nGreenberg has written six books\, including The New York Times Best Seller and Notable Book\, Four Fish: The Future of the Last Wild Food. He has received a James Beard Award for Writing and Literature\, a Pew Fellowship in Marine Conservation\, a National Endowment for the Arts Literature Fellowship\, and many other grants and awards. He has also written for National Geographic Magazine\, GQ\, The Times (of London)\, and Vogue\, and he lectures on seafood and the environment around the world. \n\n\n\nHe is the writer-in-residence of the Safina Center and regularly contributes to academia.
