SUMMARY:[Virtual Educator Workshop] Improving Schoolyards for Outdoor Environmental Education and Stewardship
DESCRIPTION:When: Wednesday\, January 25\, 2023\, 4–6 p.m. EST.\n\n\n\nWhere: Online via Zoom. The connection link will be emailed prior to the event.\n\n\n\nAudience: This online session is open to homeschool providers\, classroom teachers\, and non-formal environmental educators. Two hours of Act 48 are available for Pennsylvania Certified Teachers. A certificate of participation will be provided for teachers outside of Pennsylvania.\n\n\n\nCost: FREE! \n\n\n\n\nView the workshop recording below! \n\n\n\nWith funding from the Department of Environmental Protection’s Environmental Education Grants\, Stroud Water Research Center\, in collaboration with regional partner school districts\, sparked an initiative to create outdoor learning spaces on school campuses. These areas provide benefits to water quality and wildlife habitat as well as meaningful outdoor learning opportunities for teachers and all of their K-12 students. This project also allows communities to engage with the school to learn about the local watershed. \n\n\n\nIn this workshop\, you will hear directly from participating teachers (elementary to high school level) and Stroud Center education staff on this collaborative approach at all phases\, from design and building to lesson creation. \n\n\n\nPresenters will share tips on how to get started\, funding outlets\, design tools\, and successful ways of communicating with key staff in the district\, as well as examples of their learning spaces to be completed by the end of the 2023 school year. In addition\, you will hear from a landscape professional on plant suggestions and more in the outdoor learning landscape! \n\n\n\nLearning Objectives\n\n\n\n\nParticipants will receive information about tools and resources available for outdoor learning space design and implementation.\n\n\n\n Participants will learn about a successful model of increasing equitable access to meaningful outdoor learning spaces for teachers and their K-12 students through the design and access of the spaces.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPresented in partnership with
