Girl Scout Cadettes, Seniors, or Ambassadors (grades 6-12), join Stroud Water Research Center for a FREE hands-on introduction to spincast fishing at Marsh Creek State Park! Learn how to be a *SMART angler on your local waterways, discover freshwater fish that call Pennsylvania home, practice casting a line on a spincast fishing rod, and try your luck catching a fish from Marsh Creek Lake.

No equipment or experience is required; all fishing equipment is provided and beginner-level instruction is facilitated by the Stroud Center Education Department and the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission. Adult chaperones are encouraged. Registration for youth and adults is required.

All youth participants will receive a unique Stroud Center Education Programs Patch, a fun patch for your Girl Scout to remember their watershed education adventure!

*The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission’s SMART angler principles include Safety, Manners, Appreciation, Release, and Teach — which encourage all fishing enthusiasts to respect and care for the environment and pass along this knowledge to others to perpetuate sustainable enjoyment of our natural resources. This 2-hour introductory program integrates SMART angler principles and includes activities on the types of fish found in Pennsylvania, fish habitats, safety, equipment, outdoor manners, and protecting our water resources. Each participant learns basic fishing skills and gets to put those skills to use.
