Interests and Expertise

Shannon Hicks designs and builds a variety of environmental sensor data logger systems using custom hardware and software and commercial sensors. She also deploys and maintains the sensors and data logger stations in various settings ranging from freshwater streams to coastal marine environments. The stations monitor water, soil, and climate parameters in forests, agricultural fields, and urban settings, and then transmit the real-time data to the Monitor My Watershed data portal and visualization system. Hicks is the designer of the EnviroDIY Mayfly Data Logger board, and co-founder of the EnviroDIY.org community. She also teaches workshops to students, educators, and citizen scientists about how to build and use low-cost environmental monitoring stations.

Education
