Two Environmental Education Workshops in One Day!

- When: Two sessions on Wednesday, April 5, 2023. You may sign up for one or both sessions.
- 9 a.m.–12 p.m. (Free) Mapping MWEEs in the NEW PA Environmental Literacy and Sustainability Standards.
- 1–4 p.m. ($10) Community Engagement: Guidelines for Excellence.
- Where: Stroud Water Research Center, 970 Spencer Road, Avondale, PA 19311.
- Cost: Morning session is free; afternoon session costs $10. 3 hours of Act 48 will be provided for each session, 6 total for the whole day.
- Registration: Registration has closed.
Bring your own lunch if attending both sessions. Snacks and coffee will be provided.
Morning Session
Classroom teachers, school curriculum coordinators and administrators, and nonformal educators are invited for an exploration of how the NEW PA Environmental Literacy and Sustainability K-12 Standards include the four Essential Elements of the Meaningful Watershed Educational Experience framework.
Session Objectives
- Become oriented to the new PA STEELS Standards and MWEE Essential Elements.
- Participate in an outdoor environmental investigation (one of the MWEE elements).
- Identify how the MWEE and new standards can be incorporated into instruction.
Afternoon Session
As environmental educators, we work in and with communities ranging from workplace teams to neighborhood or regional partnerships. During this hands-on workshop, participants will learn the structure and development process of the North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE) Community Engagement: Guidelines for Excellence and explore key characteristics and tools to apply in their own context.
Session Objectives
- Become familiar with the NAEE Community Engagement Guidelines and how you can use them to improve the quality of environmental education practice.
- Identify tools for fostering community engagement strategies in your home organizations and contexts.
- Provide opportunities for participants to network and learn from each other.
