Dive Into K–8 MWEEs in the New Pa. STEELS Standards

- Who: K–8 classroom teachers, school curriculum coordinators and administrators, and nonformal educators.
- When: Tuesday, June 27, 2023, from 9 a.m to 3:30 p.m.
- Where: Stroud Water Research Center, 970 Spencer Road, Avondale, PA, 19311.
- Cost: $10. Pizza and salad lunch will be provided. Those with dietary restrictions should bring a lunch.
Six hours of Act 48 will be provided for Pennsylvania certified teachers. Professional development certificates can also be provided, if requested.
Prepare for the move to the new Pennsylvania Science, Technology & Engineering, Environmental Literacy, and Sustainability (STEELS) standards in 2025! This practical workshop will provide you with more than a theoretical understanding of these new standards. It will show you what real classroom instruction looks like using the new standards.
Learn about the new standards with a deep dive into a 10-lesson watershed unit for grades 4–8.
*This unit was designed following the Meaningful Watershed Educational Experience (MWEE) framework, and it meets all the 3–5 and most 6–8 Environmental Literacy and Sustainability (3.4) standards.
Session Objectives
- Become oriented to the new Pennsylvania STEELS standards and MWEE Essential Elements.
- Dive into a MWEE unit for grades 4–8 that is aligned to the Pennsylvania STEELS standards
- Identify how the MWEE and new standards can be incorporated into instruction.
