Pennsylvania Trout in the Classroom (TIC) is an interdisciplinary program that engages K-12 students in cold-water conservation while raising brook trout from eggs to fingerlings in a classroom aquarium. This workshop will provide an introduction to TIC for new teachers and program partners (TU Chapters, Master Watershed Stewards, and other conservation organizations, etc.) and a refresher for those who have been involved with the program in the past.
While exploring how TIC programs can be tailored to each educator’s unique curricular needs, participants will dive into TIC’s exciting learning outcomes:
- Raise trout from eggs to fry.
- Monitor tank water quality.
- Engage in stream habitat study.
- Learn to appreciate water resources.
- Begin to foster a conservation ethic.
- Grow understanding of ecosystems.
Stipends Available
Substitute teacher stipends are available for the first 10 teacher that indicate on the registration form that they need this assistance for their school to allow them to attend. Substitute teacher stipends will be paid directly to your school at your regular substitute cost after attendance at the workshop. One stipend per school is available. These funds are made available by the Pennsylvania Watershed Education Capacity Building grant (NOAA B-WET grant # NA17NMF4570274).
