The Water’s Edge Gala and Presentation of the 2023 Stroud Award for Freshwater Excellence

The Water’s Edge gala brings together business leaders, supporters of Stroud Water Research Center, and experts in the world of fresh water. During this event, the Stroud Center recognizes an individual or organization that has made invaluable contributions to the world of fresh water and presents them with the Stroud Award for Freshwater Excellence. The 2023 SAFE Award will be presented to Laura Turner Seydel, environmental advocate, eco-living expert, and chair of the Captain Planet Foundation.

    • 7:15 p.m. Lecture and award presentation.

The Stroud Center’s annual signature event, The Water’s Edge, serves to honor the achievements of the award recipient while supporting the Stroud Center’s ongoing efforts as a global leader of freshwater research, environmental education, and watershed restoration.

Previous speakers and award winners have included luminaries such as Jane Goodall; Olivia Newton-John and John Easterling; American Rivers and its president, Bob Irvin; His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco; Alexandra Cousteau; and Robert F. Kennedy Jr.; among others.

Laura Turner Seydel is a global champion of Earth stewardship. By working with organizations that address urgent challenges affecting environmental health and sustainability — everything from the air we breathe to the water we drink — she inspires actions to protect our home and life-support system, planet Earth, for the future generations who will inherit it.

Turner Seydel is especially focused on preparing children to be the next generation of environmental stewards. She is chair of the Captain Planet Foundation, which has funded hands-on projects in 90 countries and empowered millions of young people to be problem-solvers for the planet. Learn more
