Abstract
Riparian zones are important modifiers of nutrient flux between terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. However, dams alter riparian zones—trapping fine-grained, organic matter-rich sediment and creating poorly mixed, low oxygen conditions—thereby affecting sediment biogeochemistry in poorly understood ways.
