Grant Will Help Stroud Water Research Center Collect Much-Needed Environmental Data to Inform Spending on Water Quality Investments

Avondale, PA – Stroud Water Research Center is pleased to announce that its rigorous research on how to maximize water quality and stream health through restoration practices is getting a boost thanks to the Foxwynd Foundation.
A $35,000 grant through a Donor-Advised Fund will support the collection of robust datasets that Stroud Center scientists use to evaluate whether restoration practices are successful and have positive impacts on freshwater ecosystems.
Some areas of the Stroud Center’s restoration research include the impact of streamside forest plantings and farming and soil health practices on water quality, freshwater ecosystem health, carbon and nutrient benefits, water infiltration, and flood reduction.
Soil and stream data to be collected may include chemical parameters such as nutrient and pesticide runoff, biological parameters such as bacteria and fish diversity, and physical characteristics such as erosion and sedimentation.
“Restoration science is critical to ensure a strong return on investment and to guide spending of public and private funds. This generous grant from the Foxwynd Foundation will help the Stroud Center produce the trusted science needed for successful stream and river conservation,” says David B. Arscott, Ph.D., Stroud Center executive director and research scientist
“The Bentley Family and Foxwynd Foundation are proud to support Stroud Water Research Center in its mission to advance freshwater conservation through science and research. By funding critical data collection efforts, we aim to help ensure that restoration practices lead to meaningful, long-term improvements in water quality and ecosystem health,” says Pamela Villagra, executive director at Foxwynd Foundation.
Research findings will also inform the Stroud Center’s environmental education and watershed restoration activities.
