New Solar Grant Celebrates National Energy Awareness Month

800 450 Stroud Water Research Center

October is National Energy Awareness Month, and Stroud Water Research Center is thrilled to announce that we have received a Green Mountain Energy Sun Club grant to add a new 55-kilowatt rooftop system to our solar panel array. The additional panels are expected to offset 23% of the Stroud Center’s energy needs, avoiding nearly 80,000 pounds of CO2 each year.

The new system will be added to the Stroud Center’s research wing, joining the LEED-Platinum-certified Moorhead Environmental Complex as an important tool for teaching visitors how to minimize the environmental impact of their own homes.

“We are incredibly grateful for this partnership and $141,000 sustainability grant from Green Mountain Energy Sun Club,” said David Arscott, Ph.D., executive director, president, and research scientist at the Stroud Center. “The energy savings from the solar array will empower us to continually integrate sustainability into our operations every day.”
