Fourth-generation dairy farmer Walt Moore of Walmoore Holsteins in West Grove, Pennsylvania, has received the 2023 Pennsylvania Distinguished Dairy Producer Award. The Pennsylvania Dairymen’s Association, the Center for Dairy Excellence, and the Professional Dairy Managers of Pennsylvania presented the award to him at the 2023 Pennsylvania Dairy Summit.
Stroud Water Research Center and Moore have partnered together on farming practices that benefit water quality and soil health, including a system to allow dragline manure injection.
The partnership with the Stroud Center has also included trials of soil health practices including mixed species cover crops and methods to get cover crops started earlier to provide more benefits.
Moore models farm stewardship and environmental conservation through his operation and is recognized as a leader in Pennsylvania’s dairy industry, serving on various boards and committees and helping to mentor a new generation of dairy farmers and animal-care professionals.
