Avondale, Pa. – Stroud Water Research Center is accepting applications for its Farm Stewardship Program, which helps landowners plan, fund, and implement conservation practices for long-term farm stewardship.

In partnership with NRCS, county conservation districts, and others, and with support provided in part by the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, a Growing Greener Grant from the Pennsylvania Dept. of Environmental Protection, and private funders, the Farm Stewardship Program:

  • Develops a conservation plan for your farm that helps you meet state and federal regulations
  • Pursues funding via programs like USDA EQIP and CREP, REAP state tax credits, PennVest, and more
  • Helps fill any remaining financial gaps

The Farm Stewardship Program was launched by the Watershed Restoration Group at Stroud. The group is headed by Director Matthew Ehrhart, former Pennsylvania executive director of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF).

Stewardship plans funded through the program must include 35’ or wider forested stream buffers. However, the good news is CREP typically covers most or all costs for buffers, plus pays yearly rent on top.

Currently, the Stroud Farm Stewardship Program is open to Pennsylvania farmers in Adams, Berks, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Lancaster, Lebanon, and York counties and portions of Chester County. Limited funding is available for farmers in Maryland and Virginia.
