Monitoring the Health of the Susquehanna

900 506 Stroud Water Research Center

An article in an area newspaper chronicled Stroud Water Research Center’s annual sampling of the Susquehanna River near Mehoopany, Pennsylvania. Stroud Center studies have shown that the river’s health has improved considerably since the Clean Water Act was passed in the 1970s.

Entomologists from Stroud Water Research Center were checking for macroinvertebrates — mayflies, stoneflies and caddisflies — near Tunkhannock’s Riverside Park, said Dave Funk, one of the scientists.

The P&G plant in Mehoopany, as required by the state Department of Environmental Protection, has the test performed annually to determine if plant operations have any adverse effects on the Susquehanna.”
