Wild World Water Day!

800 600 Stroud Water Research Center

World Water Day 2025 was an exciting day at Stroud Water Research Center. On Saturday, March 22, more than 160 friends joined us to explore the research, education, and watershed restoration work we undertake daily to protect fresh water.

Scientists Laura Zgleszewski and Stephanie Bernasconi showcased eels, frogs, and fish from White Clay Creek before carefully returning them to the stream. Visitors saw how we study freshwater ecosystems by measuring photosynthesis and respiration and taking biological index measurements. They also saw our experimental streams in action in the Streamhouse.

Participants planted trees and raced rubber duckies! We even had a few younger friends try spin-casting and dressing like scientists. (Not all scientists wear lab coats.)

Thanks to generous sponsorship by Eurofins, we hosted hands-on activities for free. Volunteers from Wilmington Trust and Oxford Area High School students rounded out our team, making for a fun day for everyone.

Save the date for our next Science Open House in celebration of World Water Day on Saturday, March 21, 2026.
