Stroud Center Officially Activates New Solar Array During Earth Week

Newly installed solar panels at Stroud Water Research Center

Representatives from Paradise Solar and Rep. Christina Sappey’s office joined Green Mountain Energy and Stroud Water Research Center in Avondale, Pennsylvania, on Wednesday, April 23 to flip the switch on a 55.3 kilowatt solar array.

The Stroud Center’s newly installed solar panels were made possible by a generous grant from Green Mountain Energy Sun Club. The panels at the Stroud Center’s headquarters produce enough electricity to reduce its energy costs by $5,000 to $6,000 per year.

To mark the 55th anniversary of Earth Day, the flip-the-switch ceremony was held during Earth Week. The 2025 Earth Day theme, renewable energy, made this an opportune moment to officially activate the new solar panels.

Following the event, Green Mountain Energy employees volunteered to plant a streamside forest at the Stroud Center, helping to create a healthier freshwater ecosystem. The Stroud Center is grateful to Green Mountain Energy Sun Club for the grant that made the purchase and installation of these solar panels possible. The cost savings will directly impact our scientific research, environmental education, and watershed restoration activities in support of fresh water!
