Attention Conservation Professionals of Northwestern Pennsylvania
Get the Latest Insights Into Riparian Forest Restoration
Join Stroud Water Research Center and local partners on March 28 in Crawford County for a training on forested buffer restoration in northwestern Pennsylvania. The training will engage conservation professionals and others in seven counties in the latest insights on restoration methods, funding, and strategies. Partners including Crawford County Conservation District, the Pa. Dept. of Conservation and Natural Resources, and the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy will share insights and convene discussions among buffer restoration practitioners.
If you’d like to learn about the latest ways to fund riparian tree plantings, are looking for help in designing or planting a riparian buffer, would like to discuss tried-and-true planting styles, or contribute new techniques you have used in the field for planting and protecting trees, then this one-day training session is for you!
You will learn:
- Current funding opportunities.
- The latest on innovative planting techniques.
- How successful sites have been implemented.
You can also share what is working for riparian restoration in your area during a panel session and other discussions.
The buffer training is part of a National Fish and Wildlife Foundation grant to the Stroud Center to help build the local capacity to implement highly cost effective conservation practices to protect water quality and species of concern including brook trout, freshwater mussels and hellbenders, a native aquatic salamander that grows to more than two feet long. Other efforts will focus on increasing farmer adoption of soil health practices such as cover crops and no-till farming.
