This two-day overnight program for 4th through 8th grade Juniors and Cadettes in southeastern Pennsylvania will engage Girl Scouts in freshwater science education and coldwater conservation through hands-on activities in science, technology, recreation, engineering, art, and math (STREAM). As STREAM Girls, we will explore stream habitats, discover wriggling aquatic insects, collect real scientific data, learn fly-tying and casting from lifelong anglers, and camp under the stars at a science research center!
Program costs include pizza dinner on Saturday, professionally bound field notebooks, a “swag” bag of water education freebies, and TWO unique patches: the STREAM Girls Fun Patch and the Stroud Center Education Programs Fun Patch. All other meals (lunch Saturday, breakfast and lunch Sunday) are the responsibility of individual troops. 1-2 months before your program, a letter of detailed program information will be sent to the email you provide during registration. Please email Mandy Nix with additional questions or concerns.
Call for Volunteers
Do you know someone passionate about fly-fishing or fly-tying who also cares deeply about engaging young girls in coldwater fisheries? The STREAM Girls planning committee is seeking volunteers and female mentors to help teach girls fly-fishing and/or fly-tying in two STREAM Girls sessions:
- Fly casting/fishing: Saturday, August 17, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., at Anson B. Nixon Park in Kennett Square, PA, AND
- Fly-tying: Sunday, August 18, 9 a.m. to noon, at Stroud Water Research Center in Avondale, PA.
