Educator Hidden Gem Canoe Workshop: Discover the Octoraro Reservoir!

  • Date and time: Saturday, April 30, 2022, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Location: In-person pending coronavirus status and safety regulations mandated by the governor.
  • Audience: Homeschool providers, classroom teachers, and non-formal environmental educators. Six hours Act 48 available for Pennsylvania Certified Teachers. A certificate of participation will be provided for teachers outside of Pennsylvania.
  • Meet: At Jim’s Live Bait & Tackle on route 472 (Exact details will come in an email.)
  • Cost: Free! Pre-registration is required. Trip will be limited to 14 educators.

Discover Octoraro Reservoir

Experience the splendor and natural history of a relatively unknown jewel in Lancaster County with Stroud Water Research Center while canoeing the 620-acre Octoraro reservoir. From beautiful cliffs to waterfowl, you’ll experience the quiet and stillness of the lake and enjoy the following:

  • Mapping experience.
  • Water chemistry testing.
  • Paddling introduction and demonstration.
  • Paddling to explore Octoraro Reservoir and learn about the history of Octoraro, Susquehanna, and Chesapeake watersheds from guides.
  • Shore stop to pull seine nets to sample aquatic life.
