Stream and Buffer Ecology Workshop

  • Where: Stroud Water Research Center, 970 Spencer Road, Avondale, PA 19311.
  • Audience: Conservation professionals and decision-makers involved in forested buffers and/or watershed restoration.
  • Cost: Free, including lunch.

Join us for expert insights on stream ecology, threats to freshwater ecosystems, and the role of riparian forests in restoring them. Please dress for the weather, as there will be a creekside walk.

9 a.m.“Stream Ecology and Riparian Forests,” Stroud Center Watershed Restoration Manager David Wise.
10 a.m.“The Stroud Center’s Approach to Forested Buffer Establishment,” Stroud Center Watershed Restoration Coordinator Lamonte Garber.
11:15 a.m.Adjourn. An optional 45-minute tour of the 80-year-old forested reach on White Clay Creek may be offered.
12:15 p.m.Lunch provided by the Stroud Center.
12:45 p.m.Tour of the meadow and reforested reaches of White Clay Creek.
2 p.m.Breakout options:
  1. “Streams, Stressors, and Strategies for Recovery,” Stroud Center Director of Watershed Restoration Matt Ehrhart.
  2. “Soil Health Concepts and Connections to Stream Health,” Stroud Center Soil Health Coordinator Lisa Blazure.
3 p.m.Adjourn. An optional tour of the 80-year-old forested reach on White Clay Creek may be offered. Approximately 45 minutes.
